THE BUCKET LIST - shameless schmaltz

But remember this: walk away now and you walk away from your crafts, your skills, your vocations; leaving the next generation with nothing but recycled, digitally-sampled techno-grooves, quasi-synth rhythms, pseudo-songs of violence-laden gangsta-rap, acid pop, and simpering, saccharine, soulless slush.THE BUCKET LIST is a horrible, lazy, manipulative movie and all the high-octane talent on the poster should be ashamed of having taken the pay check. Jack Nicholson plays a cantankerous old bastard just waiting to have his heart melted by Morgan Freeman's smug old wise man. It's like the script-writer simply spliced every other movie Nicholson and Freeman had starred in over the past decade. The two old men meet-cute in a cancer ward and indulge themselves in a few month's of global travel in their dying days. Apparently, being terminally ill with cancer is no bar to hiking in the Himalayas. Naturally, Nicholson learns the evils of his capitalist bastard ways and delivers one of those final act speeches that has us tearing up. That is, if you are able to supress your gag reflex.

THE BUCKET LIST is already on release in the US, Canada, Germany, Greece, Italy, Mexico, Israel, Colombia, Spain, Turkey, Venezuela, the Philippines, Argentina, Slovakia and the UK. It opens next week in Australia, Hong Kong, Portugal and Brazil. It opens the following week in France. THE BUCKET LIST opens in March in Belgium, Denmark, Iceland, Japan, the Netherlands and Singapore. It opens in April in Finland, Norway and Sweden and opens in Russia on June 5th.

  1. Thats a GREAT movie about two dying mens last days with all those thoughts about lost years.Money or not they cant take it with them when they die.We all share it soner or later and i hope nobody tells you that you was a looser that day regarding your treatment abot the subject D-Y-I-N-G.

Have a nice day,you probably need it better than mee. ;)

  2. you know nothing of cinematography, this is one of the best movies i have ever seen the chemistry between morgan and jack is incredible. its a completely heart warming film that is brilliantly written and ties up in a way that blew me away. the transition of jack's speech to morgans narration to close the film was truly outstanding. terrible review dude

  3. OP.... ur a brainless, tasteless son of a bitch!
I think you should quit watching movies altogether!!
This is one of the best movies i have seen in a while!!
and both freeman and nicholson have given amazing performances!
Everything about this movie is excellent...
I think ur just a freakin retard!

  4. You and Roger Ebert should dine together sometime! Don't get me wrong I watch films, a LOT of films. and Ebert is my favourite critic. But this time...
Man, you two should get some time off, and ask yourself do you watch a film with just your brain?????

  5. @Dorian H. Roger Ebert is one of my heroes so I would relish a chance to dine with him. More seriously, I do sincerely try to approach every film I watch with an open mind and open emotions. I respond warmly to movies that are genuinely affecting - such as THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION - but I found THE BUCKET LIST to be too brazenly manipualative and clumsy in its attempts to move me. Schmaltz is "from the gut" film-making done badly, just as pretentious movies are intellectual films done badly. I watch movies with my brain and with my heart. I have high standards on both counts.

  6. I thought it was AN EXCELLENT MOVIE. I agree with the others. You might want to watch it again when you aren't in such a bad mood.

  7. Didn't care for it much the first time I watched was kind of hmm dull? But I did try it again and it's become one of my all time favourites! I love these actors so I thought perhaps it was just the mood I was in the first time I watched, I was right! Great movie, great message!

  8. are you out of you mind?!this movie is AMAZING and i dont know what you think makes you one to talk!what have you ever done that is anywhere near this great?!the answer is most likely NOTHING!

  9. I agree, This movie fucking blew.

    Generic Hollywood bullshit.
